| Not a review. It's the engineer in me, I can't help it :-) They *appear* to be brighter than Joe-Blow halogens, but I have no proof to back that up. Friend of mine used to work at Sylvania, so I have a bunch of Silverstars I got for free. Per Sylvania’s own website, the 9006 lumens rating is 1000 Sylvania’s Silverstar Site However, their life expectancy is only 150 hours. Now, compared to Sylvania’s standard halogen: The standard halogen 9006 is rated at 1000 lumens as well. Sylvania’s standard halogen But, the big difference is in their life expectancy. The long life halogens are rated for 10x the life of Silverstars So with some savvy marketing, Sylvania has managed to convince many customers that their Silverstars are brighter, and in doing so, gets them to replace the lamps nearly 10x as often. Now, as Brad had pointed out, swapping to 9005’s gives you 70% more light output than the 9006, up to 1700 lumens. In conclusion, only buy the Silverstars if you like the 4000K look, with equal light output as standard halogen and approximately 1/10th the life.
